SiS Showcases High Performance 3D Graphics Accelerator~SiS300/SiS301

Taipei, Taiwan, April 29, 1999 - Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. (SiS), a leading core logic and graphics supplier, today demonstrated in a press conference its new generation, high performance 2D/3D graphics and video accelerator SiS300, targeting at mainstream commercial and consumer markets.
SiS has established its leadership in the mainstream graphics markets with the SiS6326 which delivers the best cost/performance value. SiS has shipped over seven millions units of SiS6326 in 1998. Continuing the success of SiS6326, a 64-bit 2D/3D graphics and video accelerator, the SiS300 delivers 5X improvements in 3D performance, powered by the internal 128 bit 2D and 3D Graphics Accelerator Engines, bringing the 128-bit technology to the mainstream. In addition to the Multi-texture capability, Direct X 6.0 support, built-in DVD and AGP 2X/4X support, the SiS300 is the only mainstream 3D graphics accelerator that provides the 64MB local frame buffer memory support through the 128 bit memory interface. This provides ultimate 3D performance and an upward scalability for the high-powered 3D users in supporting the sophisticated 3D games. For mainstream users, the SiS300 provides much flexibility with the 4/8/16/32M byte graphics memory supports.
In the conference, SiS also unveiled SiS300's companion chip, the SiS301, which provides superior quality images on TV and digital flat panel monitor. With the Panel Link compliant transmitter built in, the SiS301 sends digital signals directly to the digital TFT. Using the SiS300 and SiS301 together, end users can operate dual view with three different options; having 1) same or 2) different or 3) sequential displays on 1) two monitors or 2) one monitor, one TV-out or 3) one monitor, one LCD out. Dual view provides productivity enhancements and flexibility to end-users .
By architecting the must-have 2D/3D functions in the SiS300 and the optional enhancement features, such as TV-out, digital flat panel and the secondary monitor supports in the SiS301, SiS provides sub-system makers flexibility in their product design and positioning to meet different market requirements.
All the current SiS6326 customers plan to use the SiS300. Over 20 graphics cards using the SiS300 are scheduled for May introductions.
The SiS300 is manufactured in 0.25u process technology and packaged in a 365 pin PBGA. SiS301 is packaged in a 100 pin TQFP. The SiS300 will be in volume production in June and the SiS301 will be in volume production in July. Pricing for the SiS300 starts at $25 in quantities of 10K units while SiS301 is at $7. |
