~ SiS chipset takes the lead in bringing multimedia capability under the Linux O.S. ~
Taipei, Taiwan, May 29, 2000 - Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. (SiS), a leading core logic and graphics supplier, announced today that its SiS630 and SiS540, the 3C integration single chips, support DVD playback, 3D and 5.1 Channel AC3 audio under the Linux OS platform. The SiS630 and the SiS540 are the first chipsets on the market to offer hardware accelerated multimedia solution for Linux. As the popularity of Linux increases, support for such OS becomes important for key components such as chipsets.
SiS is working closely with InterVideo on "LinuxDVD" for SiS' current and future products. All these products are designed with hardware accelerated features that can deliver high performance and quality video such as DVD and DTV. The software design provides software interface (API) between SiS solution-based advanced hardware DVD driver and DVD video player which is provided by 3rd party.
For speedy 3D application under Linux, SiS has developed a driver based on Direct Rendering Infrastructure (DRI). The driver can support the following features: - multi-texture - Z/Stencil buffer format: 32/0, 16/0, 24/8 - Color depth : 16/32 bit - AGP texture - Vertex fog, Linear fog, non-linear fog table - Simultaneously access the 2D and 3D engines
At the same time, SiS offers a driver for audio which delivers features including the world's first 5.1 channel support with OSS architecture, implementation of multiple AC97 codes and API compatibility with free LiViD DVD player.
SiS will keep delivering the most updated drivers on all its solutions to support 2D/3D/Video, Audio, IDE UMDA66 networking and modems under the Linux platform as well as other operating systems. |
