Taipei, Taiwan, December 5, 2000- Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. (SiS) today made the following statements in response to the litigation filed by United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) in the U.S. Federal Court:

1. SiS places heavy emphasis on intellectual property rights and has long respected the intellectual property rights of others.

2. SiS has established and built strong technological foundation of its own since its founding. SiS' achievements today are the results of hard work and devotion through the years.

3. SiS is astounded by the allegations of UMC's lawsuit and is conducting an investigation of the claims. Based on the company's initial study, SiS has not found any merit to the case.
