US Trade Judge Supports SiS in Patent Dispute
|
Taipei, May 7, 2002--Silicon Integrated Systems Corporation (SiS), a leading core logic and graphics chip supplier, announced today that yesterday, 6 May 2002 in the US an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) of the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) has issued an Initial Determination in favor of SiS, concerning claims of patent infringement made against SiS by United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) involving UMC!|s Patents No. 6,117,345 and No. 5,559,352. In the preliminary opinion of the ALJ these claims are without foundation because the patents themselves are not valid. The ALJ thus recommends that the ITC not find SiS in violation of any part of the Tariff Act. SiS has always maintained the highest regard for rights of intellectual property, both that of others and of SiS itself, and is thus very pleased that the Administrative Law Judge has found no basis for infringement in these claims. SiS feels the ALJ!|s opinion is a fair one. SiS has worked hard for many years to accumulate its own advanced IC technical capability and knowledge base, and considers that the opinion of the ALJ vindicates that effort. |
