SiS Debuts 658 Chipset with RDRAM Memory for Performance Market
~ The world's first chipset to support dual RDRAM 1066 MHz memory, enabling exceptional performance in workstation and high-end user markets ~

Taipei, Taiwan - July 31, 2002 - Core logic and Graphics Chip leader SiS (Silicon Integrated Systems) today launched its new chipset, the SiSR658, which was developed specifically for top-of-line desktop PCs and workstations. Using RDRAM memory, the SiSR658 offers 1.5 to 2 times more data transmission bandwidth than competing memory solutions (e.g. DDR), allowing users to benefit from a faster and smoother computing experience. The SiSR658 chipset fully meets the needs of users who have a high demand for a multitasking and greatly enhanced work performance.

"As our dependence on computers continues to grow, modern consumers will increasingly choose PCs or workstations that are comparatively high-end. Systems configured with RDRAM memory deliver the highest performance. This performance advantage will become even clearer as processor frequency scale to over 3 GHz in the coming year," says Mr. Alex Wu, Senior Director of the SiS Integrated Products Division. "With our leading technologies, SiS will continue to create excellent, cost effective products for this target segment."

The SiSR658 is the first chipset in the world that supports Dual RDRAM at 1066 MHz. The SiSR658 flexible memory interface supports all device configurations, single Channel module systems, and up to 4GB memory capacity. Furthermore, with its proprietary MuTIOLR technology, the SiSR658 can easily achieve up to 1GB per second northbridge-to-southbridge bandwidth transmission. This technology allows systems to take full advantage of the high performance, low power consumption and high compatibility characteristics of the SiSR658.

"The launch of this new chipset is an indication that SiS is paving the way for a more complete range of high-end products," said Frank Fox, Vice President and General Manager of Rambus Inc. "The SiSR658 extends the SiS chipset roadmap further into the performance segment, offering memory bandwidth and a complete set of high end features expected by power users."

About the SiSR658

The SiSR658 supports up to 4GB 1066/800 MHz RDRAM memory capacity, and also fully supports the AGP8X graphics chip. Together with the new southbridge SiS963, it boosts northbridge-to-southbridge transmission speed to 533MHz per second. In addition, the SiSR658 is equipped with powerful multimedia functions, including 5.1 ChannelAC'97 2.2 Audio, 10/100MB Ethernet, Home PNA2.0 and Dual ATA133/100/66 IDE Channels. The SiSR658 supports six PCI slots and six USB 2.0/1.1 ports.
