SiS Employee Released for Home Quarantine
May 4, 2003, Taipei- The Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) employee reported as SARS suspect is the first case in Hsin Chu area to be released from the Hsin Chu Military Hospital to start a 14-day quarantine at home. The formal examination result for this employee is delayed due to prolonged process and increased pending cases. The Department of Health authorized the clinical physicists to make judgment on cases that are qualified for release. As the body temperature of the SiS employee has been below 38°C and the results of leukocyte index and X-ray showed normal during her 5-day hospitalized quarantine(starting April, 30th), both the Hsin Chu City Health Bureau and Hsin Chu Military Hospital regarded the case qualified for release from the Hospital to continue the quarantine at home (Please refer to the May 4th press release at the Hsin Chu City Government website www.hccg.gov.tw)

Since this case caused pressure and inconvenience to all employees, families, the business partners and all companies in Hsin Chu Science Park, SiS is very much relieved with this decision from the Department of Health, Hsin Chu City Health Bureau and Hsin Chu Military Hospital. However, SiS still implements vigorous health and safety measures proclaimed by the Department of Health before SARS gets under control and waiting for the final report of the examination. These include:

1. Strict entrance rules: All employees have been issued digital thermometers to measure body temperatures and wear respirators before entering into office and fab areas.

2. Employees with body temperature above 38°C should make records and inform their supervisors for sick leaves. The supervisors are obligated to follow up and report to Department of Human Resources should the leaves exceed 2 days.

3. All suppliers and contractors take the same entrance regulation and should wear respirators the whole time inside of SiS office buildings.

4. All visitors and delivery services follow the same entrance regulation.

5. Janitors will disinfect the public office areas with diluted liquid bleach, which is also available for personal area disinfection.

6. Employee website will provide the most updated information regarding current situation and SARS prevention tips.

The SiS R&D Building in Hsin Chu will resume normal working hours on May 5th since the disinfection has completed on May 1st and no more suspected case is reported in the past 5 days.

Michael Chen, President and CEO of SiS, expressed appreciation for the special attention paid to the employee by the Hsin Chu City Health Bureau and the Hsin Chu Military Hospital. He said that the employee has been in good health condition and should be recovered in a short time. Michael Chen said, "Throughout the process, we have dealt with the incident with speed and calmness; therefore, the SiS business operation has been intact. The fab continues to improve yield and efficiency; the production and delivery are smooth and the R&D has followed the roadmap closely. We thank for the attention and support from all that care for us, and we should rid all employees, family members, customers, partners and our investors of worries."
