Taipei, March 11, 2004- Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. (SiS), a leading supplier of core logic chipsets, today announced that 6 leading manufacturers of USB WLAN dongles will be using the industry-leading SiS162U WLAN single-chip Medium Access Controller (MAC) and Baseband Processors (BBP) in their latest products for the growing WLAN market sector. The SiS162U is designed to support the IEEE 11b standard. The vendors chose the SiS162U WLAN solution because of it's proven record for reliability and performance, as well as the fact that it was the first 802.11b WLAN chipset in the market with a USB2.0 controller. SiS' success with the implementation of the USB 2.0 controller means that it is one generation ahead of competitors who are only just now starting to integrate USB functionality onto their WLAN chipsets. Combine this with SiS' unparalleled levels of customer sales and support, and it is easy to see why so many companies are working with SiS for their WLAN solutions. The SiS162U is designed to be the lightest and most compact wireless chipset, with no need for extra Flash or SRAM and is only 10mm*10mm. The hardware circuit engine of the SiS162U supports 64-/128-bit WEP/WPA encryption coding to provide solid data security capacity, and the programmable software design helps minimizes the power needed for operation. In addition, SiS162U is expected to meet the requirements of FCC, Wi-Fi and WHQL. SiS162U works well with RF/PA hardware, such as Airoha, GCT+Winspring and Maxim, providing a flexible solution. It supports both Ad-Hoc and infrastructure networks and allows clients to enjoy extremely comprehensive wireless networking backup. Besides providing NDIS drivers (such as Win9x/ME/2000/XP/NT 4.0), diagnostic programs and EEPROM setup tools; SiS162U also supports Linux, WinCE 4.2, and WinCE .NET environments. SiS also offers a complete testing package; user configuration software, onsite inspection tools and specific customize software.
The customers whose products use the SiS162U chipset are the smallest, lightest and least power consuming on the market. These are: Cnet Technology (CNUSB-611), CC&C Technologies (WL-1207), Billionton Systems (USBWLS), Cameo Communications (WLB-1500), EDIMAX Technology (EW-7119U), and Global Sun Technology (GL-2411UD).
"The success of the SiS162U is shown by the huge interest shown by WLAN dongle producers," said Michael Chen, President and CEO of SiS. "These companies know that the SiS solution is the highest quality and most versatile on the market."
