SiS756 and SiS163 combine to provide a new wireless platform for AMD desktop PCs with PCIe support

Taipei –March 9, 2005 --- Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) today announced that SiS recently announced the combination of the SiS756 PCIe chipset with the SiS163 WLAN chip provides an all-new choice for desktop wireless platforms. The SiS756 chipset provides support for the new PCI Express specification, while the SiS163 WLAN chip provides support for 802.11b/g wireless LAN specifications.

Although already quite common in notebooks, SiS is leading the way in Wireless LAN (WLAN) technology application in desktop PCs. The combination of the SiS756 and SiS163 chips provide desktop computers with all-new capabilities in wireless connectivity. The development of this chip combination paves the way for a revolution in the way traditional local area networks are set up, giving desktops the freedom to roam around a wireless network without the need to rewire the network every time a PC is relocated. This revolution in network technology will bring huge savings for businesses in network wiring costs, and for home users, will provide significant reduction in the clutter of cables required to build a home network. With the addition of dedicated software, desktop PCs with the SiS chips can also be used as wireless APs to provide shared Internet access to every computer with wireless capabilities.

The SiS756, featuring SiS’ leading HyperStreaming™ technology, integrates with AMD’s exclusive 1GHz HyperTransport™ technology to deliver up to 2000MT/s. Moreover, SiS MuTIOL® 1G technology, embedded in the SiS756 chipset, ensures the smoothest data transfer between North and South Bridges and the fastest bus architecture available on a desktop PC chipset. Matched with South Bridge Chipset SiS965, the SiS756/965 offers a complete solution, simplifying sales and support while offering users the most cutting edge features. The SiS965 features a robust feature set for today’s demanding and varied PC applications, including support for two PCI-E X1, gigabit LAN, 8 USB 2.0 ports, AC 97 7.1 channel sound, 4 SATA and 4 PATA devices. The SiS965 also supports SATA Multiple RAID disk array modes in RAID0, 1, 0+1, and JBOD.

The SiS163/163U, the latest single-chip Medium Access Controller (MAC) and Baseband Processors (BBP) to support the IEEE 802.11a/b/g standards, are the smallest WLAN controllers on the market by using a smaller circuit layout, without sacrificing performance or cost. As well, the SiS163/163U do not require additional Flash or SRAM, further reducing size and weight, making the SiS163/163U ideal for mobile customers. Moreover, the SiS163U supports the Compact Flash 1.4 interface for digital cameras, PDAs and the upcoming "smart phones".SiS also supports the Linux, WinCE 4.2, and WinCE .NET environments and providing NDIS drivers (such as Win9x/ME/2000/XP/NT 4.0), diagnostic programs and EEPROM setup tools for the SiS163/163U. For the AMD Athlon™64 market, the SiS163/163U is ready with the latest AMD Athlon™64 drivers to ensure the best performance in Athlon™ 64 based systems.
